When new construction attempts to replicate a specific period style, most end up with the feeling of an inferior prefabrication. We searched for months, well over a 150 homes, and the only one we really liked was a newly constructed craftsman style house. JLD Custom Homes had managed to successfully capture the original grace of the period. As luck would have it, Jeff was building the same model but in an even better location. He worked with us to add our own distinctive touches and upgrades. Even with frequent rain delays, the house was completed on schedule and the minimal punch list was knocked out in just a few days. The overall quality of the construction is also very high. From the kitchen cabinets, to the stair
spindles, including the fireplace mantle are all made of high quality wood and the staining was carefully
done. The wood work (base boards, crown molding, doors, window sills, etc.) throughout the house is
also first rate. The chandeliers, ceiling fans, faucets, granite countertops and appliances are refined
without being flashy. The use of high technology, making the house a “Texas green built” certified, is also an
enormous plus. Based on my previous experiences, the square-feet based gas heating and electricity cost of the house during the winter months is around 40% less, and the electricity
cooling during the summer so far is about 30% less than the most efficient new house I have lived in.
